BAM! Gallery in Mermaid Beach is set to hold a Bushfire Relief Art Auction on Friday 7 February. With over 80 pieces of art up for grabs and with 100% of proceeds going to charities such as WIRES, The Australian Red Cross and The Salvation Army, the gallery is encouraging everyone to get involved and not only potentially take home a piece of art, but also help victims of the Australian bushfires.
With work showing by artists from as far away as the USA as well as renowned local and national artists, the silent auction is an event not to be missed. Given the fact many of the featured artists have been generous enough to donate their artworks for the auction, bidders may find themselves taking home a downright bargain.
“Many of these artworks do not have reserve prices,” said gallery co-director Alana Wilson.
“As a result, it’s up to you how much you want to pay – who knows what you might end up with in the back of your car! It’s going to be a great night and with all proceeds going to the bushfires. It is undoubtedly a worthy cause that we hope contributes to the rebuilding of all the affected communities around Australia,” she continued.
Gold Coast artist, Abbey McCulloch, who was one of the artists generous enough to donate her artwork to the cause, believes it was the least she could do, given the catastrophic circumstances of the fires.
“I think most of us just feel sick. Our beautiful country is feeling quite broken right now,” said McCulloch.
“As artists, I guess all we have is what we make, and if I could, I would donate everything I have ever made to fix this climate emergency. BAM! Gallery’s Bushfire Art Auction is a great opportunity to help raise funds and I’m so happy to be involved,” she said.
The event will be a silent auction beginning at 5pm on and running until 9pm. With tasty refreshments and drinks provided, as well as a plethora of outstanding artworks up for grabs, this is an evening not to be missed.
Bidding, which will close shortly after the event, is also now available online and to view artworks, visit byronartsmagazine.com.au.
